I was too. I had been a happy smoker for more than fifteen years and had simply had enough of losing my breath for doing the simplest activity. Walking up a flight of stairs, lifting something heavy, or god forbid having to run for even the shortest of distances. All of these things caused me to lose my breath. I wasn't on the floor gasping for breath or anything, but I would be breathing heavy. Heavier than that amount of physical exertion should cause a person to be. One day I finally said enough is enough.
I made the decision to stop smoking, once and for all. I had tried to stop before. I had tried both the gum and the patches with no success when a realization hit me. What was the realization? The realization was that I didn't need some product to help me stop, all I needed was myself. All I had to do was not smoke, it was as simple as that.
I realize that this might sound over simplistic, but it's truly what I realized. And with this realization, quitting was easy. I stopped buying into the hype about how difficult it was going to be to stop. It seems like every time a person turns around there's someone telling them how hard it is to stop smoking. Well, I chose to tell myself how easy it wass going to be, rather than how hard it was going to be.
Within six months I was a non-smoker. Someone said once, "Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change." We'll, I changed the way I looked at smoking, and the act of smoking changed for me. There came a point during the six months, that I couldn't stand the sight or smell of cigarettes. But, do you know what? I kept smoking. Then the day came when I said: I'm done. And I walked away from smoking forever. This all happened because I changed the way I looked at things.
Once I quit smoking, I then wanted to exercise. Not running marathons or anything, just exercising a bit. I now walk at least a mile a day and no longer get out of breath from the simplest of physical activities. I'm not writing this article to brag, but to make you realize that you to can do exactly what I did. You can walk away from smoking forever, and you can do it without the aid of anything someone might be selling to help you. All you have to do is change the way you look at smoking, and the act of smoking will change for you just as it did for me.
